Magagnosc is a beautiful little village nearby to Pre de Lac and its larger cousin Grasse. The old village sits on top of a major hill overlooking Plan de Grasse, Opio, Valbonne and every other village in between here and the coast. Its breathtaking views are awesome on a clear day. This village gets plenty of sun and enjoys cooler temperatures than the heat of the coast.
Magagnosc is inhabited by both English & French speakers, so it makes for a very friendly village to stay in. This beautiful holiday accommodationoption in the centre of Magagnosc gives you the opportunity to stay in old village in one of the newly built villages houses. All the luxuries without any cobwebs. These lovely village houses are new but look as if they have been in place for hundreds of years!
This village is perfectly situated for mountain walks and twisting mountain drives up to the famous touristic village of Gourdon where para-sailers and para-gliders take off from the mountain tops and can be seen flying above you as you stand in Magagnosc. You can continue on this road past Gourdon and take the mountain pass to Pont du Loup. This is where the mountain known as the Loup finishes abruptly into a steep cliff falling 200 metres. You can see this mountain pass if you look up from anywhere near Valbonne.
Magagnosc's 'vieux village' has recently undergone major rejuvenation with 11 new village homes built in stone to resemble the rest of the old village. These village homes are inhabited by English, Irish and French people.
A major renovation and re-building of a private residence consisting of at least 3 buildings is underway at present on the site which was once the village hotel. This hotel is famous for having Picasso visit often and write in the visitor's book. He wrote that he hoped the archways within the hotel would never be changed as their rust coloured red tones were exceptional. Magagnosc also contains a very hidden secret, a beautiful rich rust coloured church, that sits on the top of the mountain top village overlooking the village and the mediterranean. Its one of the best spots to enjoy the sunset as the sky begins to match the colour of the church.
The local village shops are just above the old village in Pre de Luc. There is a pharmacy, a florist, a tabac, a bookshop, a net cafe, a few banks including a Credit Agricole and a BNP bank with ATM's, three boulangeries, La Banette boulangerie offers the better bread and service, forget the other ones. There is one Provençal restaurant serving home cooked meals in the day time for lunch, a chinese & vietnamese restaurant and many cafes and a local bar or two that seem popular with the local workers.
Twice per week the local fresh produce markets occur, these being on a Tuesday & Thursday. Its a quiet village, perfect for taking time out. If you want to hit the nightspots the coast is just 25 mins drive away.
